TONIGHT: Humanbeast & Russian Tsarlag at Apop Records

HUMANBEAST | RUSSIAN TSARLAG | LARVA | PERVERTED | BRAIN TRANSPLANT

Humanbeast Russian Print

Tonight 6/12/13 9PM $7
Apop Records

Humanbeast – darkly Providence. Touring to support their upcoming records on Load Records, but also keepers of the refined cassette imprint Gross Domestic Product.
Second coming will take place in the depths beneath the shop. shadow, smoke, flashes of injury, electricity and heels.

“And that’s very much what we have here. These are definitely songs, constructed from simple heavy beats and synth notes, but with cracked electronic noise that sometimes bleeds in at the edges, sometimes plays an integral role, and occasionally threatens to wash the musical elements away in a mudslide of static. The best part of this and the central element is the powerful and powerfully delivered female vocals. It sounds something like if the Eurythmics were forced to do a recording session with Wolf Eyes and the results were the best thing either of them had ever done.” – WFMU’s Beware of The Blog

And get ready to let down your dreams… the man himself, Carlos Gonzalez, is..
RUSSIAN TSARLAG
Not Not Fun, Hot Releases, Night People

Mimaroglu says:  “if MB made ambient hymns to a dying world, then russian tsarlag fashions the enchanted pop anthems of its monstrous inhabitants…a great blend of sci-fi horror pop and modern dystopics, tsarlag remains one of the most original voices in the sub-underground american freak scene.”

12:00 UMBERTO – (LA, Not Not Fun records)
First caliber synth worship, infl’d by the flavors of horror. Easy comparisons to Simonetti and Carpenter.

Preview the LP on VICE here:
http://noisey.vice.com/fr/blog/here-is-umbertos-new-album-confrontations

11:00 FIELDED – (LA, Chicago, Catholic Tapes, Captcha Records)
Sorceress incantations over sizzling beats.

She’s supporting her new album out on Captcha, it’s amazing. Catch a few trax here:

10:15 GEL SET – (Chicago)
Moody synth pop. We like what 20Jazzfunkgreats had to say: “she’s a vision a gun toting, mace wielding armour-clad High Places patrolling the ghettos of ethereal indie pop with the scarred grimace of Snake Plisken.”
https://soundcloud.com/gel-set

9:30 TRAUMA HARNESS – (STL)
Super solid and meliodic post-punk scare jams.

8:45 CAVE OF SWORDS – (STL) S
Sultry downtempo ‘tronics with chanteuse vox.

The best act in town? He doesn’t have web presence because it’s a must see for yourself type thing.

March at Apop: Lazy Magnet, The Men “New Moon” Listening party, Power Electronics Nightmare, Lantern, Forced into Femininity, Freezerburn Release Party

Planet Earth: snow all you want, but you can’t stop the bad ideas from shaping into reality. Spring at Apop is unstoppable! (For better or worse).

On the reg Apop performers, fresh to the basement groovy rocknrollers, vastly ill-notioned evenings of problem laden young men and female troubles, and a release gig for a long-standing STL zine from someone who knows when enough is never enough.

Oh, and one nice, chill evening of rekkid listening, free beer and ticket give-aways to see The Men in April.  Hugs all around, jerks.

And this is just March!

Lo! April will bring unto thee the return of Apop Movie Nights, Ed Schrader’s Music Beat, Solid Attitude, Chris Corsano & Darin Gray, and the real end of the world: Record Store Day 4-20, brah. Wow, now if only Earth Day (also, more importantly, Apop’s 9th Birthday) would align with this date, we’d see some real action / potential loss of human life on a grand scale. Phew!

For now, we’ve listed all the March goodies below, each linked to their event page on ye olde fussbuch.

So, let’s get on with it! Starting this Saturday with our pal and yours, The Mag, Jeremy Harris! Scope this excellent video for an even more excellent track off his latest Bathetic released vinyl “Acts Without Error”.

PAK | DUNGEON BROADS | GHOST ICE @ live Apop Records Tuesday night! 1/29/13

Tuesday 1/28/13, 9 PM
Apop Records

Matt Erickson of Radiant Husk, Bezoar Formations has asked us to host this cozy shindig of Providence peoples–because we have always had some strange and lovely connection with that city and it’s artists–and we are happy to comply! Knowing that Jeremy K will be performing as Ghost Ice, something that he seems to be doing less frequently as years progress, sweetens the deal, fer shure, too!

Pak (South Carolina/Providence) : handmade tape loop murk, always amazing, plus the lady recently lived in Qatar…wha?

http://normalposition.tumblr.com/

Dungeon Broads (Providence) : solo lounge noise

http://pricetapes.tumblr.com/post/3923197026/pt002-dungeon-broads-y-c10-edition-of-30

Ghost Ice : Never fails.

Marble : best synth-songstress/beat-dropper in STL?

Blemished Stone : Nathan Cook (Close/Far) /Matt Erickson honk duo
